The National Forest Foundation (NFF) and Blount International are pleased to announce a unique partnership to augment the NFF’s U.S. tree-planting initiatives and support international forestry and agriculture conservation efforts in Brazil.

Blount International’s contribution will support the NFF’s Trees for US program, which targets high-priority reforestation needs across the National Forest System. Since the NFF began its tree-planting programs in 2008, it has planted more than six million trees on National Forests around the country that have suffered natural disasters like wildfire, storms, insects, and disease. Reforesting our National Forests improves watersheds by reducing sediment and other pollutants that enter streams and rivers, restores wildlife habitat, sequesters carbon and improves air-quality, and provides a more aesthetic forest experience for the millions of Americans who visit our National Forests annually.

“We are very pleased to be working with Blount International,” said Bill Possiel, NFF president. “Blount International’s support allows us to leverage our granting and conservation expertise with international partners and provides our tree-planting program with resources that will improve our capacity and get more reforestation projects accomplished.”

“The mission and efforts of the NFF and their partner organization SPVS in Brazil align with the focus of Blount’s social responsibility platform and our business in the Americas.”

Josh Collins, Chairman and CEO of Blount

To accomplish the international forestry and agriculture work supported through this partnership, the NFF is partnering with the Sociedade de Pesquisa em Vida Selvagem (SPVS), a Brazilian conservation organization dedicated to improving biodiversity and forest health by working with small agricultural interests and timber harvesters throughout Brazil. SPVS’s mission is to work for nature conservation through the protection of native areas, environmental education, and the development of models for responsible use of natural resources. The grant will support SPVS’s mission and help increase their capacity to work with local farmers and ranchers to support biodiversity and sustainable agriculture.

“The mission and efforts of the NFF and their partner organization SPVS in Brazil align with the focus of Blount’s social responsibility platform and our business in the Americas,” stated Josh Collins, Chairman and CEO of Blount. “Sustainable forestry practices and reforestation efforts generate valuable resources for future generations. Similarly, conservation and sustainable practices in Brazil will provide a foundation for ongoing resources and provide knowledge and skills that can be applied in both agriculture and forestry.”
