Dieter Fenkart-Froeschl

Dieter Fenkart-Froeschl is the President and Chief Executive Officer of the National Forest Foundation, the congressionally chartered partner of the US Forest Service. In his role, Dieter leads with impact, aligning the organization’s priorities around the Forest Service’s priorities of wildfire resiliency, land and watershed restoration, and recreation for all. Dieter reports to a 30-member board of directors and works with US Forest Service leadership, nationwide partners, and a dedicated staff of 160+ to transform America’s love for nature into action for National Forests and Grasslands.

With close to three decades of leadership experience in for-profit and non-profits, Dieter believes in generational impact. Prior to joining the National Forest Foundation, Dieter held leadership positions at the National Park Foundation, the National Parks Conservation Association, the American Museum of Natural History, and the San Diego Museum of Art. Dieter began his career in the private sector at Bank Austria Creditanstalt.

Hailing from Austria and having lived in Brazil, Chile, and Austria before coming to the United States, Dieter values diversity in views and perspectives. Dieter holds an MBA from Columbia Business School and a BA in History and Economics from Brandeis University. Dieter is married to Sarah and they have two sons, Roman and Miles, who are both outdoor enthusiasts and have recreated in many National Forests. In his free time, Dieter enjoys hiking, camping, cooking, cross-country skiing, and taking long walks with Montana, the family dog.
