Sophia Etienne

Sophia joined the NFF in February of 2026 as an Associate Individual Giving Officer. In this role, Sophia connects donors to what inspires them about NFF’s work, with the goal of general support for the projects and programs that the NFF carries out to improve the health of National Forests. Her favorite part of this work is building relationships with donors and helping to connect them with our mission in a meaningful way.

Prior to the NFF, Sophia put her fundraising skills to use at a nonprofit bike shop in Knoxville, TN working to keep bikes out of the landfill and distributing them to communities in need. Earlier in her career, she spent a year of service with the Community Action Committee AmeriCorps in Knoxville, where she helped aggregate and analyze the City’s energy consumption data, worked to get the city certified as a National Wildlife Federation Community Wildlife Habitat, led interpretive programming, and spent weekends removing pollution and invasives from streams and wetlands. These were the foundations of her passion for on-the-ground conservation work.

Sophia holds a degree in Public Health from the University of Evansville. Her heart has always been in the forest, and she is thrilled to be able to continue growing her nonprofit development skills in service of the National Forest Foundation. She spends her free time trail running, coaching soccer, and skiing with her husband and dogs in the mountains around her home in Vermont.
