Beckwourth Hand Thin & Pile Plumas National Forest, California

The NFF and the Beckwourth Ranger District (BKRD) of the Plumas National Forest are collaborating on the 1,116-acre Beckwourth Hand Thin & Pile Project. This project is a manual hand thinning and piling project located near the City of Portola and Lake Davis designed to reduce wildfire risk by removing suppressed understory trees with poor crown structure to disconnect vertical and horizontal tree-ladder fuels, reducing stand density, and modifying species composition to shade intolerant, fire resistant species.
