Fort Valley Experimental Forest Thinning and Stand Improvement Coconino National Forest, Arizona
The Fort Valley Experimental Forest (FVEF), established in 1908, is the Nation’s first Forest Service research facility. The NFF seeks a contractor to conduct up to 1,656 acres of tree thinning and stand improvement work on the FVEF within the Flagstaff Ranger District of the Coconino National Forest. Treatments include mastication, hand thinning, and piling of live and dead Ponderosa pine trees up to 9 inches in diameter at breast height (DBH). The primary objectives of the FVEF restoration project are to:
Reduce the risk of uncharacteristic wildfire by lowering stand density and removing ladder fuels, and
Improve overall forest health by reducing inter-tree competition and enhancing the growth, vigor, and resilience of residual trees.
