Lower Beaver Creek Restoration Santa Fe National Forest, New Mexico
The purpose of this project is to improve and restore the lower reach (approximately 1,000 feet) of the Beaver Creek watershed function through design work and a series of restoration activities that address excessive sediment inputs, high stream temperatures, destabilized streambanks, over-straightened stream channels, a lack of vegetation for shading, and disconnected floodplain. This project will improve water quality, water temperature, reduce erosive forces, maintain infrastructure, and improve wildlife and fish habitat along this tributary of the Gallinas River in San Miguel County, New Mexico near the El Porvenir bridge and campground.
Special attention shall be paid to the intersection of project stream work with a high-use campground and adjacent public creek access area, multiple trailheads, and a newly installed bridge.
