Have you hiked or driven through the Columbia River Gorge since the Eagle Creek Fire? Many places look different but life is returning to areas that the fire impacted. We recently worked with professional photographer Richie Graham who used his lens to show how life in the Gorge is returning and to the work the NFF is doing to reopen trails.

After the fire, about 150 miles of trail were closed. Now, more than 100 miles of trail have been reopened thanks in part to the support we received from people in 32 states, local businesses and foundations who contributed to our Eagle Creek Fire Restoration Fund. This year the NFF will help reopen and maintain more than 37 miles of trails this year with our partner Trailkeepers of Oregon.

What is the future for the ecology and recreation in the Gorge? The NFF is collaborating with the REI Portland Store and coalition of organizations to increase the number of people helping to keep the trails open and to make sure the Gorge retains its ecological health and recreation access into the future. The need for work in the Gorge continues and financial contributions are still needed to help us keep this work going. Click here to donate or learn more about the Eagle Creek Fire Restoration Fund. Be sure to get out and enjoy the Gorge and watch life rebound!
